Walking Sticks
- Intro & Page 1
|
| The Walking Stick, also called the Stick Insect, is a slow-moving,
green or brown colored insect that resemble twigs. They belong to
the Phasmatidae family, order Phasmatodea. There are about 2,000
species. They generally occur in the tropics, but there is a North
American species Dispheormera fernorata that can have such heavy
infestations that they can defoliate oak. Some species regenerate
lost legs and antennae. Closely related are the Leaf Mimics, which
are shown on another page. |
