Arachnids

An arachnid is any member of the class Arachnida, part of the invertebrate phylum Arthropoda.  Arachnida are best known for the Araneida (spiders) and the Scorpionida (scorpions), but also includes the Opiliones (daddy longlegs) and Acari (mites and ticks).  The arachnids have a segmented body, a tough exoskeleton, and jointed appendages. Most are carnivorous. Arachnids lack jaws and, with only a few exceptions, inject digestive fluids into their prey before sucking the liquefied remains into their mouths. Except among the acarids in which the entire body forms a single region, the arachnid body is divided into two distinct parts: the cephalothorax, or prosoma, and the abdomen, or opisthosoma.
