Sauropods, Page 1

All Sauropods were vegetarians.  Their teeth were made for chewing leaves.
Plateosaurus
Plateosaurus
(small dinosaur at right) "Flat Reptile" was small as far as the Sauropods go - only 23 feet long.  It is significant because it is one of the early species, a prosauropod..  It lived about 220 million years ago.  They walked on all fours, but some could raise up on their hind legs to reach high branches.  Many of their fossils have been found together, leading scientists to believe that they lived in herds.  Replica is 7.5" long.

Brachiosaurus
One of the largest, heaviest and longest dinosaurs, the "arm lizard" resembled a massive giraffe.  It seems to have been designed for eating leaves from high trees, but some scientists think it lacked muscles for raising it neck as steeply as a giraffe.  Today it is thought that this Sauropod stood at the edge of the woods swinging its head up and down and sideways as its chisel shaped teeth cut a swatch through all vegetation.  Fossils have been found in America and Africa.  It lived 153-111 years ago.  Replica is 22" long.

No. LRP11-BR.  Only $29.95
Diplodocus
The longest complete dinosaur skeleton found so far is that of the the Diplodocus.  The name means "double beam," because it was so massive that it resembled a walking suspension bridge.  It was longer than a tennis court.  It lived 150 million years ago.  Fossils have been found in the western United States. It exhibits so many classic characteristics, that it is sometimes regarded as the classic or typical Sauropod.
The replica is 24" long.
